How to report an error

Email corrections@modernselfjournal.com with the article URL, the specific claim you believe is wrong, and — where possible — a source that supports the correction. You can also use the correction link at the bottom of any article, which opens a pre-filled version of the same email.

How corrections are reviewed

Every correction request is checked against the original source used for that claim, and against any new source the reader supplies. If the claim was accurate at publication but has since become outdated (a changed regulation, a superseded statistic), we update the article and log the change. If the claim was inaccurate at publication, we correct it and note that explicitly.

Material corrections vs. routine updates

We distinguish between two kinds of change:

• Material corrections — a factual error that changes the meaning or reliability of the article. These are noted in a visible correction line at the top of the piece, dated, and briefly described.
• Routine updates — minor wording, formatting, a broken link fixed, or an example refreshed, none of which changes the substance of the article. These update the "last modified" date but don't carry a correction notice.

What we don't do

We don't quietly delete or rewrite a published claim without a record of the change, and we don't backdate a "last modified" date to make an article look more current than the edit actually warrants.
